What a year it’s been! We’ve never seen so much change both globally and locally in a single year. We hope that you’ve weathered the storms and are settling in for a nice, relaxing holiday break.
The CC Recruitment team would like to say a big thank you for your support over 2020, it has been a tricky year to navigate, but we’re coming out of it stronger than ever and that is a testament to all the great employers and employees who have stuck with us during this turbulent time.
As you will be aware, border restrictions are still in place and that means there are still challenges going forward in bringing in migrant workers. However, you are a part of a huge network of onshore workers which means we can still secure quality employment for you and help with your visa needs, so please get in touch if you need assistance.
Recently, we have seen a few changes that look promising. Visa applications for offshore family members of low-skilled and mid-skilled visa holders will open in February 2021, and will be granted subject to borders being opened.
In addition, we recently helped a candidate stuck offshore enter New Zealand, who had a current work visa and was normally residing in New Zealand. The new Border Criteria
for normally resident work visa holders means there is still some flexibility in bringing current visa holders back into New Zealand. So, if this affects you, please get in touch in the new year.
Next year we hope to see some change in border settings, and we’ll keep you updated on these ahead of time.
Changes to temporary work visas
In September 2019, the Government announced temporary work visa changes to replace six temporary work visa types with one new employer-assisted work visa in 2021.
The six visas that will be replaced by the employer-assisted work visa are:
- Essential Skills Work Visa
- Essential Skills Work Visa — approved in principle
- Talent (Accredited Employer) Work Visa
Long Term Skill Shortage List Work Visa
- Silver Fern Job Search Visa (closed 7 October 2019)
Silver Fern Practical Experience Visa
Any current visas held under the above are not impacted and remain valid until their expiry. Other work visas will not be impacted by these changes. Further detail was expected in late-2020 but hasn’t been forthcoming due to NZ Immigration’s extra Covid-19 induced workload. The new visa will now be introduced after mid-2021 – we’ll keep you posted with any updates.
A reason to celebrate!
This year we decided we wanted to do something extra special for our team to celebrate a very challenging year! So last week we all took to the Auckland Harbour on a private launch to enjoy a fun-filled day of beautiful food, games, laughter and even water sports. We were lucky to enjoy stunning weather and it was a much-needed chance to wind down, drink a few brews, thank our team and to celebrate an eventful year together. We are looking forward to another great year in 2021, albeit hopefully with fewer challenges!
